Mainly there are 2 kinds of pool, formal and informal pond. Which the formal pond is a choice for not wide garden. Especially for the dry garden that has no grass and most of the surface consist of hard element such as stone, cement, pebble or con block. This kind of pond has the symmetrical shape with stiff and clear or explicit edge, while there isn’t many elements at the edge. The plants usually have the straight crown and vertical leaves to make the contrast impression with water surface. Some plants in the pot may be put at the corners. Can be added with waterfall or water mountain. So this kind of pond has the cold atmosphere.
The informal ponds have many variations and free shapes but still needs to matched with the whole garden. The design has the vary plant type choices. The plant portion dominates the pond visually. The plants have the fertile and dense growth. The plants that don’t have a place in the garden may be placed near this pond.
The pool security
To avoid people slip to the deepest part of the garden pond, the edge part is made slope and more deep at the center. Don’t choose the slippery surface around the pond’s edge, but use the texture surface. For the informal pond, the plant is a good natural protection. Choose the strong stem plants for life fence. But the plant position should be well arranged so it doesn’t hinder the view.
For more secure there is other option to build the dike around the pond (raised or semi raised ponds). The dike itself must be built strongly to hold the water pressure inside. The material can be river stone, natural stone, cement or others.
